CurbedWire: Wind Attacks Soho, DOB Inspector Refuses Bribe

New, 5 comments

SOHO?Today's blustery conditions wreaked havoc down in Soho, as loose scaffolding getting tossed around in the breeze forced the closure of Broadway between Prince and Houston Streets and other points south, we hear. Not as exciting as the Great Soho Wind Storm of '06, but a nice effort nonetheless. [CurbedWire Staff]

NEW YORK/NEW JERSEY?The Port Authority has a new website! Our world is rocked. [CurbedWire Inbox]

UPPER EAST SIDE?Hey, not all Department of Buildings inspectors are mobbed-up corrupt a-holes! The DOB just issued a fun press release qouting commish Robert LiMandri's commendation of an inspector who reported a bribe attempt on the UES. Check it out:
"I would like to commend one of our inspectors for reporting a bribe to the Department of Investigation, which led to the October 6th arrest of Hersel Hedvat, a Manhattan business owner. Our inspector told DOI investigators that Hedvat offered him money not to issue a violation and a Stop Work Order after he failed to have proper plans at a construction site at 1324 Lexington Avenue. Our inspector flatly refused and issued the Stop Work Order, which is still in effect."Here's the SWO for work without a permit, described as "demolished store front & installed new partitions & electrical work." Building owners, please let this be a lesson that not every DOB inspector can be bought. [CurbedWire Inbox]
