Curbed PriceUpper: Cost of Copper Soars in East Village

New, 3 comments

At first the Copper Building at Avenue B and 13th Street couldn't seem to decide whether a pair of penthouses should be together or apart, but now that it appears settled, the latest debate is over the matter of price. The magical Stuy Town eraser and former Development Du Jour had listings for Penthouse A, Penthouse B, and a 4BR, 4BA Penthouse AB. Now only the combination remains, but while it was asking $3.6 million in July, the price was recently, EV Grieve notes, raised 7% to $3.85 million. Welcome to the $1,500/sqft club, little buddy.

The Upper East Village's new project-adjacent penthouse nonpareil has an open house coming up this Sunday. Below is the floorplan for the duplex, and note the double-height spaces. Says the listing: "With soaring 22 foot high ceilings and an enormous private outdoor space, this duplex is unrivaled in East Village apartments. Upon entering the apartment, you are struck by sweeping views of southern Manhattan. You will truly feel on top of it all." On top of Avenue B, surely, but not the luxury real estate scrap heap. All those millions and we're talking Kohler and Bosch and not Viking and Sub-Zero? Even the gang outside Raul Candy Store knows that's just not right.
