Old Bushwick Gangs to Inspire New Bushwick Band Names

New, 20 comments

BushwickBK brings us this unearthed 1976 news footage of local toughs the Devil's Rebels, a "teenage gang that roams the 83rd precinct looking for trouble." (Note: We're only 60% sure this isn't just deleted footage from The Warriors.) According to Classic NY Street Gangs, which we just made our homepage, the gang was a "brother club with the Dirty Ones from Williamsburgh." So that's how the East Williamsburg/Bushwick borders became blurred: One turf! Watching the footage, it doesn't seem like the Bushwick gangs of the '70s were much different from the Bushwick hipsters of today. They're equally as drunk, but the gangs had cooler jackets.
