Selling 40% of anything nowadays is cause for celebration. Selling 40% of a not-yet-completed funky-lookin' Midtown hotel/condo for prices around $2,000 a square foot is worthy of a week-long Vegas bender. For brokerage the Marketing Directors, this stunning achievement at Cassa NY has been rewarded with...getting shown the door. The Real Deal reports that despite the early sales success, developer Assa Properties has canned the brokerage and hired Prodigy International to sell the rest of the 57 units. The goal: Cassa is going international! The brokerage specializes in bringing in foreign buyers, and Prodigy's president Rodrigo Nino thinks Cassa, with its hotel services and pied-a-terre friendly location, is a good fit for his clientele. Plus, the craziness of the prices will probably get lost in the currency conversions. Also important to foreign buyers, Nino says, is familiar brand names, and Cassa has one: starchitect Enrique Norten. The TEN Arquitectos mastermind "has a lot of credibility in Mexico," so maybe this is the perfect opportunity for Cancun police officers looking to invest the payoffs they get from spring breakers trying to stay out of jail.
