Curbed Hamptons: 'Camping House' Takes Home the Prize

New, 2 comments

1) Bates Masi + Architects' Lakeside Residence in Montauk (above) has taken home a local AIA award. The house was "designed to evoke the experience of camping," with retractable glass walls to allow the melding of indoor and out. Bring your own sleeping bags and s'mores.

2) Publishing bigwig James Fairchild and his wife have raised residents' ire for plans to renovate Southampton's 1885 Hildreth House, which they are in contract to buy. The Fairchilds' worst proposed offense seems to be their plan to change the house's color. According to the head of the East Hampton Historical Society, "to denude this painted lady of her clothes is shocking, if not obscene."

3) Interior designer Jamie Drake's East Hampton home is now on the market for $2.9 million. The listing promises a 6,200-square-foot "fairy tale landscaped private oasis" and 40-foot-long pool. It even offers you an opportunity for holiday giving: bring a non-perishable food item to the November 28th open house and it will be donated to a local food pantry.
