The practice of paving over front yards to create private parking spaces exploded from 2005-2008, earning the endorsement of Barbara Corcoran and the rage of blogger Queens Crap. Now the City Planning Commission is finally ready to act. Just launched: The public review of the Residential Streetscape Preservation text amendment, which would prevent "parking pads" as well as new curb cuts in certain areas (lookin' at you, Queens!). The action comes in response to "the concerns of residents and elected officials that parking in front yards and inappropriate curb cuts are disrupting neighborhood character." [City Planning]
