Massive Chunk of LES Continues Toward 100 Years of Solitude

New, 6 comments

Though we already had our annual look at SPURA?the five parcels of Lower East Side land that have remained undeveloped for over 40 years?back in June, The Lo-Down files this update that pretty much tells your everything you need to know about why the largest tract of vacant city-owned land in downtown Manhattan has been a massive parking lot since before man landed on the moon. You really don't need to get beyond the first sentence: "David McWater, chairman of a CB3 committee charged with formulating a plan for the redevelopment of the Seward Park Urban Renewal Area (SPURA), threatened tonight to put the panel's work on indefinite hold." Oh, Seward Park Urban Renewal Area, you truly are on our list of favorite shitshows.
