A Greenpoint landlord faces an $80,000 penalty for refusing to give permission for a walk-in shower in an elderly, disabled tenant's apartment. The tenant, who pays $250 per month for the rent-controlled pad, says the landlord, Kong Chae Choi, was trying to give her the boot and told her to move to a nursing home. A judge fined Choi and ordered him to install the shower. Choi's explanation for his behavior: he doesn't speak English and the building is actually owned by his wife. [NYP]
