Whole Harlem Block Going Green

New, 2 comments

A row of 10 historic affordable-housing buildings on West 135th Street between Lenox and Seventh Aves. will be among the first affordable blocks in the country to go green. (Once upon a time, the buildings were also the first ones that far north in Manhattan to be purchased by an African-American landlord.) The buildings' energy-efficient retrofit -- including solar panels and new boilers -- is supposed to start by the end of the year. The roof panels will also connect to a screen in a storefront window back on the ground, so passersby can see just how much energy is being saved. Science! [NYDN]
