Affordable Rebirth May Be In The Cards for The Collection 525

Rumors of financial trouble have swirled around building boom baby The Collection 525 for some time. But there are a few new and interesting nuggets in a WNYC piece about the building, where construction worker Jose Palacios died in a scaffolding collapse in January 2008. Federal officials say the contractor, Bell Tower Enterprises, never paid more than $30,000 in fines it owed following the accident, and the company has since been dissolved. Developer Karnusa Equities also still owes $7,500 in violation penalties on the building. TD Bank began foreclosing on the property in May, and state assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries says he's been talking to the bank about turning the building into affordable housing. Fine, as long as they don't try to take away our "visionwall".
