To the surprise of no one following the slow and painful birth of Brooklyn Bridge Park over the years, the opening of the first section of the park?the Brooklyn Bridge-hugging Pier 1?has been delayed. But just a little! The lush lawn was supposed to silence the doubters by opening in 2009, but the Daily News reports that the ribbon-cutting has been pushed back to January to avoid conflicting with Santa Claus. Meanwhile, the fast-tracked Pier 6 was also eying "preliminary" completion this year, but that charade has been dropped and spring is the new target. You can't rush a good beach volleyball court.
