Architecture-loving dumpster divers, get thee to Pineapple Street, where the trash includes broken-up chunks of terra cotta from the St. George, once New York's biggest hotel and now all chopped up to hell (but riding a wave of nostalgia!). A tipster writes to Brooklyn Heights Blog:
They are throwing gorgeous pieces of yellow and green and black art deco terra cotta into the dumpster on the Pineapple Street side of the St George Tower, just across from my building...I'm going over to try to save some of the pieces. They look round, like they're from chimneys. It's been a rough year for the St. George, but hey, freebies!
