In the Post's year-in-review roundup for real estate, the Apthorp is a stand-in for everything that happened to the market in 2009: not actually as bad as expected. The paper deems Manhattan's average price per square foot decline of 16.5 percent "dramatic -- but not a total collapse." Other highlights of the year: lots of lawsuits, and buyers walking away from big deals. But many of those buyers turned around and negotiated better deals, Big Hirt style. [NYP]
