1) Midtown East: The Plaza Hotel's basement retail collection gained two shops this year in Douglas Hannant and the Eloise kids shop, but it doesn't look like it'll be enough to get the subterranean mall through until the Food Hall opens. Only the Demel bakery and the Eloise shop have been crowded, and the rest of the place feels like a ghost town.
2) Midtown West: The line for Tory Burch's sample sale on 36th Street, which opened today, is unsurprisingly long. But at least no one has yet abandoned a child at the checkout counter this time.
