A Stuy Towner's New Rent Doesn't Excite, Back in the U-S-S-Yards

STUY TOWN?The gift of rent stabilization is coming to Stuyvesant Town's market-rate renters this Christmas, but one tenant warns not to get too excited. Each of the 4,400 newly stabilized units have different situations based on their rental histories, but here's one story: "I live in ST and was told by the attorneys that the estimated stabilized rent for my 2 BR apartment would be about $3K, which is about what a 2 BR at my location was renting for at market rates prior to Tishman Speyer's rental freeze earlier in the year. I've lived in the apartment since early 2004. If that's what the rent stabilization settlement achieves, then the fuss about it seems overblown." Any other Stuy Towners with word of their new rent care to chime in? [CurbedWire Inbox]

PROSPECT HEIGHTS?Following this week's boffo bonds sale, developer Forest City Ratner has finalized its agreement with big scary Russian Mikhail Prokhorov. Prokhorov will buy 80 percent of the NBA's Nets and 45% of the Barclays Center arena, and he has an option to acquire 20% of the full Atlantic Yards project. Let's go Nyets! [CurbedWire Inbox]
