This week the Times' Square Feet column heads uptown to East 110th Street, where the former owner of a meat market has developed a $15.2 million mixed-use complex: a new butcher shop, a green grocer, restaurant, and pizzeria, and a 46-unit apartment building for low-income residents. By all accounts, the project has transformed the block, even inspiring a nearby property owner to upgrade his own apartment buildings. The developer who worked on the mixed-use project has a not-so-subtle memo to Mayor Bloomberg: "Sometimes, I don't think the mayor understands the powerful impact that small amounts of funds can have in a neighborhood."
