The little shell of concrete on Washington Square South, better known as the Catholic Center at New York University, has been dolled up in plywood before being sent off to Architecture Heaven. The windows are gone and this week the Buildings Department issued preliminary permits, so NYU's jackhammers can't be too far behind. Demo here will add to the disruption in the area, causing souls of all sorts to wander in search of a place to rest. Maybe this is what Big Purple is giving up for Lent this year. Abandon hope indeed!
