CurbedWire: FiDi's Sports Museum Closing Tomorrow, Midtown Construction Scares

New, 16 comments

FIDI?The Sports Museum of America, which opened at 26 Broadway last May and inspired many a "Lower Manhattan is reborn!" stories, will close "until further notice" tomorrow. A Curbed tipster tell us, "All events booked in the space will be canceled. And, I can't seem to get onto their web site." A phone call confirms the shuttering. Nasty recession out there. Sorry, sports fans. [CurbedWire Inbox]

MIDTOWN?A reader writes in with some color commentary on that construction mishap today on West 45th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, possibly the Cassa NY site: "I work in 1166 Sixth Avenue, right across the street. Last month we got an email on a Saturday from our building manager saying that the crane on the construction site 'blew a component' and the 45th street entrance to our building was closed. Oh, and that 'there is no danger.' Let me tell you, that construction site scares me. The other day they were hauling up what looked like a shipping container and it was dangling from the crane at a really scary angle. I think I might avoid the 45th st. side of my building from now on." [CurbedWire Inbox]
