On the Racked: No More Bananarama on Bleecker Street, West Elm Bringing Box Art to UWS, More!

New, 5 comments

1) Greenwich Village: When American Apparel took over the classic Banana Republic space at Bleecker Street and Sixth Avenue, they indicated an ode to the previous tenant would live on in the store's decor?palm trees and safari and such. But lo! The newest AmApp has opened its doors, and there's nary a wild beast in sight (Dov Charney not included).

2) Upper West Side: With Chelsea and Dumbo having already been conquered, trendy furniture retailer West Elm has set it sights on Broadway. The company's third NYC store will be between 61st and 62nd Streets, and feature a series of sculptures crafted out of West Elm packing materials by designer David Stark.

3) Chelsea: The Barney's warehouse sale is still raging, and the markdowns to the markdowns have finally begun. Examples: "30% off of shoes, 40% off on men's suits, and a nice 50% off on women's denim and everything in the Chelsea Passage."
