Golf, Green Roofs & Drinking Water Collide in the Bronx

New, 8 comments

Our drinking water supply's first line of defense against terrorism: golf and landscape architect Ken Smith. Who knew? Grimshaw Architects, that's who, hence the firm's design for a gigantic green roof at the new Croton Reservoir filtration plant sunk under Mosholu Golf Course in Van Cortlandt Park. The facility is mostly underground, and the roof will doubles as a driving range, with the clubhouse and filtration pools creating a security barrier, medieval fortress style, protecting the water supply from evil terrorist attack. Security-ness! Says Ken Smith: "I think we're pushing both the design of the green roof and the design of the golf course in new directions." The compound should be complete in 2012. Fore!
