Tribeca's Zany Rock-Climbing Wall APPROVED

[Renderings: Smith-Miller + Hawkinson Architects]

Word has come via the Curbed tipline that architect Henry Smith-Miller's proposed metal/tin/glass "stone cloud" rooftop addition to Tribeca's 78-80 Leonard Street, which makes up for in ambition what it lacks in financing, has been approved by the Landmarks Preservation Commission. The eight-unit addition?called "origami" by Downtown Express and "Aggro Crag" by us and any other fans of Nickelodeon's Guts that happen to be reading this?was previously surprisingly embraced by the typically cranky Community Board 1. The folks over at Smith-Miller + Hawkinson Architects were kind enough to send us some new renderings of the 9,500-square-foot addition, including the street-level shot seen above. Looks good, we just have one question: Tribeca, are you READY TO RRRROOOOCCCCKKKK?!?!
