SVA's New LES Dorm: What Can Brown Do For You?

New, 44 comments

What to make of the School of Visual Arts' new Ludlow Residence dorm on the Lower East Side? We're not quite sure! The 20-story building at Ludlow and Delancey Streets, like a giant sandstorm bearing down on fragile little BLUE nearby, is certainly a howler, but there's just something oddly hypnotic about it, no? The recently-approved Lower East Side/East Village rezoning caps building heights on main streets at around 100 feet shorter than the dorm, meaning the Ludlow Residence?built by Soho House and High Line Building developer Charles Blaichman and designed by Rawlings Architects?is sure to stick out for a while.
