Still lacking the $6 million in state funds that make up half its operating budget, Governors Island is looking at an April 1st shutdown?but lo, here comes Mayor Bloomberg to save the day! The city has offered to take control of the agency that runs the island's operations, Crain's reports. The city has also offered to take control of Brooklyn Bridge Park, while giving up the Javits Center to the state. The Observer adds that city money earmarked for the Javits renovation would be funneled into Governors Island and BBP to get them moving. A spokesman for the state said, "The 'governor' has been in Governors Island for over 400 years and we are committed to keeping it there," but c'mon Albany, you're fucking with Water Taxi Beach!
