Next month marks the two-year anniversary of the chimney collapse at venerable West Village speakeasy Chumley's?an incident that left 82-86 Bedford Street highly unstable. The owner initially promised an October '07 Chumley's re-opening, but as time passed and little progress was seen, that date was frequently revised. The latest target was spring '09, and though a recent Eater update on the building left us wary of that goal, there are finally signs of life coming out of Chumley's. The bird's eye shot via Vanishing New York confirms: Folks, we have dormers. And suddenly, the Chumley's of new is at least vaguely reminiscent of the Chumley's of old.
