CENTRAL VILLAGE—An esteemed tipster emails the above photo, and this caption: "This is the new front attached to the building built on the former site of Cedar Tavern, 82 University. Plywood came down last week." As a refresher, here's what the place looked like back in the day, and during construction. [CurbedWire Inbox]
UPPER WEST SIDE/ALTERNATE REALITY—"I was just watching a preview for the new NBC show Kings and found to my great surprised and delight that the exterior of the 'palace' is actually The Apthorp! How much do you think Mann got out of that deal?" Also noted in the alternate-reality TV show: an oddly bastardized NYC skyline; plenty of scenes shot inside the Time-Warner Center, complete with Per-Se-esque views; others we missed? WILLIAMSBURG—Another tipster sends along this word of changing times in the 'Burg: "The shuttered SteelWorks Lofts sales office on N 6th had a sign this weekend that Artists and Fleas market is opening up there on April 4th. I checked the market's website and they had a small blurb about it as well." [CurbedWire Inbox]
ASTORIA—Emaileth a Curbed Queens correspondent, "So you know the new Residential/Commercial building on 34th ave & 41st Street (just off outside of the Steinway R,V,G) in Astoria? Next to the new Rite-Aid? No, okay well anyways.... Over a year ago this fancy new condo was put up. The commercial space and the majority of apartments sat vacant until recently. It looks like just about half the apartments are now occupied and most recently an Entenmann's Bakery Outlet took over half of the ground commercial space. Last night I was horrified to discover the atrociousness that is their window display. Seriously, what an eyesore! [CurbedWire Inbox]
