Not-So-Funny Money

New, 5 comments

You gotta make money to make money. That's the strategy of the National September 11 Memorial and Museum, which wants to issue a U.S. Mint-produced commemorative coin in 2011 to raise cash for operating costs. The museum has already enlisted former senator Alphonse D’Amato to lobby on its behalf, but the commemorative coin competition is cutthroat, the Observer reports. Already a spot has been claimed for a coin honoring the creation of the U.S. Army, and the Girl Scouts are in the mix. The museum's coin isn't pictured, but in our Googling we stumbled upon an existing coin with a pop-up Twin Towers. Classy! [NYO]
