Out of Governors Island Wreckage Comes Picnic Point

Forget the troubles plaguing Governors Island and check out the amazing view of the Statue of Liberty from the old military base's Picnic Point. Wait, what the heck is Picnic Point? According to the Governors Island Blog, that's the winning entry in the contest to name the new eight-acre open space created following the November demolition of the ten "Liberty Village" apartment buildings on the island's southwest shore. Lawn and picnic tables ('natch) will be added to this area, which has been off-limits since Gov's Island reopened as a summertime attraction. Then again, if the money for Gov's Island doesn't come through in time, it'll stay that way.
