Somebody Finally Takes Out the Trash at Willets Point

New, 11 comments

Yesterday morning Willets Point United, a group fighting the city's redevelopment plan at the gritty industrial row, announced it would be "organizing a cleanup of garbage dumped along the streets of Willets Point" on Friday to call attention to what they say is the city's refusal "to provide us with sanitation services for decades." Wouldn't you know it, the Department of Sanitation showed up almost immediately with garbage trucks and sweepers to spiffy up the Iron Triangle, which famously has no functioning sewer infrastructure. Says Willets Point United on its blog, "It's a shame that the only way to get services is to embarrass the City." The cleanup will move ahead as planned, and something tells us Willets Point will have no trouble finding a way to again be covered in garbage by tomorrow morning.
