They Paved Pearl Street and Put Up a Parking Lot

New, 9 comments

Though it has been a long time coming, a report has been filed by EV Grieve showing that 213 Pearl Street's transition from historic 1830s warehouse to parking lot is now complete. If you recall, 211-213 Pearl Street?in the upper reaches of the Financial District?were the last two buildings standing in a row of structures sometimes cited as New York's "first world trade center." A late rally to landmark the buildings failed, and while 211 Pearl Street became this crazy thing, the 213 Pearl Street site was earmarked for a 53-story hotel before financing dried up. But hey, a parking lot is kind of like a hotel for cars, isn't it? Mission accomplished!
