As the Apthorp Turns

New, 95 comments

We're all familiar with the ownership battle and screwy state of the condo conversion at the Upper West Side's landmark Apthorp, but the Times takes a look at life inside the building, with is nearly half-empty: "Until recently, Mercury Khalsa, a 6-year-old resident of the building, used them — along with other vacant apartments on other floors — as private playgrounds, riding his Razor scooter down hallways and across vast living room floors. He stopped only after 'he got spooked,' said his father, Coke Wisdom O’Neal, when 'somebody made it clear to him that the building’s new owners wouldn’t be happy with him being in there.'"
