Residents and business owners along Beach 116th Street in Queens thought "their neighborhood could be the Queens equivalent to Brooklyn's Williamsburg or Long Island’s Long Beach," but the end of the real estate boom has reversed the recovery of the beachside neighborhood. Almost half of the storefronts are now empty, and buyers of buildings and new condos have all but vanished. Looks like that rezoning wasn't really necessary. [NYT]
