Construction continues apace at 400 Fifth Avenue, where the Setai hotel gang and the architecture crew from Gwathmey Siegal are putting up a stepped-back tower of condos (up top) and short-stay lodging (down below, 'natch). Big slabs of limestone panels set into a pre-cast backing (similar to the way they did it at 15 Central Park West) have started going up on the nine-story base, following the curve of the facade from Fifth Avenue around to 36th Street. Up above, they're at an additional 7+ floors and climbing quickly. The aforementioned ice cave is still on track, and an opening in the late-ish part of 2010 is what folks here are aiming for.
