Brokers were shocked when Madonna went to contract on a massive Upper East Side townhouse on the "wrong" side of Lexington Avenue, and so were her future neighbors. On the Daily Beast, one writes that the "unapologetically dull" neighborhood is "a jumble of soulless apartment towers, tenements and more dry cleaners, Duane Reade drugstores and Citibank branches than the economy could possibly absorb, even in the best of times." And already, "tourist traffic had picked up just in the few days since the news of Madonna’s purchase broke." [Daily Beast]
