The growing salt pile (salt mountain?) at the Red Hook Marine Terminal has already been blamed for blizzard-like conditions along and around Columbia Street, and now the Times reports that residents are fighting back, with fliers that read in part, "Stop the salt pile menace." The salt is being stored at the terminal before being shipped out across the state. Not all neighbors are bothered. Said one, "We're breathing in smog and all types of fumes and chemicals. At least salt is part of the earth." [NYT]
