Eran Chen, principal and director of ODA?the architecture firm that designed the hotel conversion of the Tribeca building that partially collapsed this morning?e-mails Curbed to say that hotel construction had yet to kick off at the property: "The adjacent vacant lot is the one conducting underpinning for their future foundation, which probably caused the collapse." That vacant lot next door is slated to get a new six-story residential building, which we'll have more on soon. Meanwhile, the Tribeca Trib notes that plans were recently submitted to partially demolish the section of the building that collapsed. Mission accomplished! [CurbedWire Inbox]
