The ultra-mod Cooper Square Hotel has reached the stage of being almost fully functional, and many of the guests are going ga-ga, but there's still more Bowery magic in store. The plywood around the rear and side garden along East 5th Street has come down, revealing two new floating canopies that will apparently protect the party people once the place goes green. One is a huge trio of steel beams jutting out from the facade of little 27 Cooper Square, a bit of brick which was nearly swallowed by this tower of fun. A second claw of a canopy is at the southeast corner of the site, butting-up against neighbors who are, no doubt, looking forward to some smoke-free peace and quiet as construction crawls toward completion.
