On the Racked: MTA Bad for Biz, a Soho Retail Tombstone

New, 3 comments

The latest from Racked, covering shopping and retail from the sidewalks up.

1) Noho: Surprise?there's a whole strip of shops behind that big ol' cement truck! And guess what? They're not very pleased about being located in a construction warzone. The MTA's subway work at Broadway-Lafayette is putting a Second Avenue Subway-type licking on the Lafayette Street boutiques, with Zachary's Smile owner Kristi Paras telling Racked, "We're making the best of it, but it's less than ideal. The timing could be better, let's just leave it at that."

2) Soho: There's something unsettling about seeing a big empty retail box in the heart of Soho. How can anything fail in that outdoor megamall. L'Occitane, we hardly knew ye.

3) Los Angeles: Meanwhile, we direct your attention to Racked LA, where the Hermès H-Box is following in the footsteps of Zaha Hadid's Chanel Mobile Art as the crazy-lookin' roaming art pod that could probably blow up the world if you flipped the wrong switch.
