Back in 2007 a Red Cross blood donation center on the Amsterdam Avenue superblock between 66th and 70th Streets was demolished, leading to much speculation and rendering porn as to what was to come on the Upper West Side site. The answer turned out to be a 42-story tower from Handel Architects, who?in an e-mail newsletter?say 150 Amsterdam Avenue has just topped out. The glassy slab is near 200 West 72nd Street, another Handel project that recently planted a flag. The building will be rentals and is scheduled to be complete next year. Although this looks like another one of those UWS big-retail-supporting dizzying residential towers, the base of the building holds 25,000 square feet of community space.
