Color us confused about the current happs at Greenpoint's Pencil Factory condos, the restoration of a 137-year-old?yep, you guessed it?pencil factory mixed with, uh, something that's definitely not 137 years old. Vanishing New York stopped by the West Street construction site and found that all the permits had been removed, replaced with the above scrawl, which reads, "job site shut down 5/5/09." As Greenpoint watchdog Miss Heather reports, the building has suffered some permit shenanigans in the past, so we're not quite ready to file this one away in Arrested Development quite yet. We've placed a few calls to the sales office, but no one has picked up. Hmm...
