Meanwhile, at the Hotel Chelsea: Sign Spat Rages!

New, 26 comments

After the ouster of longtime Hotel Chelsea manager Stanley Bard, Chelsea tenant/gadfly Arthur Nash draped a series of pro-Bard banners over the railing on his second-floor balcony, later replacing them with one streamlined "Bring Back Stanley Bard!" sign that has been hanging ever since. In late April, a complaint was made to the Department of Buildings regarding a "sign attached to a fire escape"?a complaint the Hotel Chelsea Blog alleges was lodged by hotel management. The DOB suggested the removal or legalization of the sign, with a hearing scheduled in June to sort the matter out. In the meantime, Nash has taken the sign off the railing, but it hasn't gone far. Eh, on the scale of Hotel Chelsea hijinx, we'd rank this a 4.
