Rihanna's Soho Rental Has Plenty of Umbrella Storage

New, 21 comments

Who rents those huge Soho lofts with asking prices to make a financial planner do a spit-take on a tall glass of Alka-Seltzer? Celebrities, of course, who parachute into town for a few months at a time and desire a home in the heart of the action. The latest, the Post's Jennifer Gould Keil reports, is pop star Rihanna, who'll shack up for the summer inside a 2,300-square-foot 3BR spread in the newish Mercer Greene at 92 Greene Street. According to Keil, RiRi will pay $18,000-per-month for the apartment, which is listed for $22K/month. Sweet, a bargain!

Though the article says the apartment is a penthouse, the listing's floorplan (seen above) is actually for unit #2A in the seven-story building, a kinda-sorta duplex with a 464-square-foot rear deck?meaning penthouse owner (and NASCAR racer) Brian Vickers will soon have a more interesting view when he eventually looks down. Rihanna's landlords paid $3.745 million for the apartment two years ago, and per the listing, the unit is available for 1-5 months and smokers are not allowed. We're sure her many rapper collaborators will be on their best behavior when they drop by.

5:45PM UPDATE: The apartment's broker, Lisa Maysonet, tells us Rihanna "is not renting the apartment at all in any which way, shape, or form." But get this: There's a penthouse at 92 Greene about the same size as the stats reported in the Post (but with a terrace 2x the size) on the market for $4.675 million, and the listing's fine print says it's also available for rent for, yep, $18K/month. Mystery solved?
