Tribeca Ordering a Second Cosmo?

New, 1 comment

Pity the poor owners of Tribeca's Cosmopolitan Hotel at West Broadway and Chambers Street, who actually managed to secure financing for a new six-story building next door that would add 25 new rooms to the budget-rooms stalwart. The problem? Community Board 1, which opposes the red-brick addition (with a glass storefront strip), though the CB's input is only advisory. The building at West Broadway and Reade Street that would be replaced is a two-story stucco job currently home to a Mexican restaurant. "The Reade St. corner is like a chipped tooth on this beautiful row of teeth," the hotel's architect told the board. [Downtown Express]
