CHELSEA?Not long ago, a permit got revoked for a penthouse addition to the Hopper-Gibbons House at 339 West 29th Street, the only known (we think?) Underground Railroad safe house in Manhattan. The Landmarks Preservation Commission is currently considering making the house and 11 neighbors a Historic District, but worried neighbors report that a renewed work permit has been filed and a cement mixer is currently "in the front yard." Complaints to 311 are already being made, it appears. Photo via Chelsea Now. [CurbedWire Inbox]
BROOKLYN?In a stunning shift for our ability to seek out PriceSpotter candidates in far-off locales, listings aggregator StreetEasy now has access to the full Brooklyn Multiple Listings Service (which includes about 200 brokerages). Brownstoner on the impact: "That comes out to about 2,500 new listings in neighborhoods like Sheepshead Bay, Gravesend and Canarsie that have previously been under-represented on the site. Most importantly, from our standpoint at least, is that StreetEasy will get the complete address data all these places, information which MLS and most mom-and-pop brokers have guarded closely. A giant step for transparency!" [Brownstoner]
