Brooklyn's Navy Green Might Just Hang Out for a While

Though the current economic climate may seem unkind to massive mixed-use developments across the street from the Brooklyn Navy Yard, the developers of one of our favorite projects built on former prison sites, Navy Green (above), are moving ahead with the public review process. The Brooklyn Paper reports that Community Board 2 just gave an advisory-only pat on the back to the 455-unit Flushing Avenue project, while registering some concerns over the lack of parking. But don't break out the map to find Wallabout quite yet. The developer took a dose of truth serum before the meeting and said, "We can hold that site for several years right now if we need to.” They might need to. The board also approved another big rental project in and around the Fort Greene area, the Whole Foods-teasing 470 Vanderbilt Avenue.
