Jean Nouvel Riding to Brooklyn on Gold-Flecked Horses

The long, drawn-out game of horse and mouse played between Dumbo royalty Jane Walentas and the powers-that-be at Brooklyn Bridge Park is over. The wife of Two Trees premier David Walentas has finally succeeded in landing Jane's Carousel, her painstakingly restored 87-year-old amusement, a full-time home in the upcoming waterfront park, after promising to pay for a carousel pavilion designed by French starchitect Jean Nouvel. Brownstoner points us to a press release issued by the governor's office announcing the agreement, which also says Walentas will pony up (har!) $3.45 million toward Brooklyn Bridge Park landscaping and improvements and form a non-profit group to manage the antique's operations. Yeesh, talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth! The carousel, which has its own website, fan club and network news coverage, is being stored in a Water Street warehouse too small to allow for riding.
