Williamsburg Sidewalk Has That Sinking Feeling

A Curbed tipster writes, "Any idea why Office of Emergency Management had N. 3rd between Bedford and Berry blocked off last night? Or why there’s police tape around the scaffolding? Or why there’s a stop work order on the project (is it notable that the entire block is under a stop work order?" A visit to the DOB website provides the answers. At 197 Berry Street, construction site of the five-story building from Quadriad Development that's but the first piece of the company's Williamsburg puzzle (which one day might end up looking like this), a caller reported, "sidewalk is sinking about 1 feet below street level of construction?in danger of collapsing." Yep, that'll bring out the cavalry, especially so soon after the 493 Myrtle Avenue collapse. A full stop work order was served, and later partially rescinded to allow for support work. Brownstoner has the photo documentation.
