Curbed PriceUpper: One York Penthouse Adds $9 Million

New, 10 comments

When we journeyed into Mexican starchitect Enrique Norten's One York last year, the under-construction condo building with bold aspirations of glamifying Canal Street was asking $25 million for its glass-wrapped duplex penthouse (floorplanned here). Pricey? Yes! Crazy? No! After all, the market was still sizzlig and the full-floor unit right below was in contract for big bucks (it closed in December for an above-ask $14.48 million). Now that penthouse?all 8,027 combined square feet of it?is still looking for a buyer, and One York's website has been updated with pictures of the product still in a somewhat raw state, as well as other, completed units. Oh, did we mention that the asking price is now $34 million?

The original Brown Harris Stevens listing is gone and the new listing and price popped up this month on StreetEasy via the building's in-house sales team, along with a description that rivals Infinite Jest in length. And speaking of modern American literature, we're pretty sure "white lacquer vanity with custom Corian countertop and integral sinks – 2 separate water closets, each with built-in wall cabinet and stone veneer door and integrated 20” Sharp LCD television" is lifted verbatim from American Psycho. As for the PriceUpping, maybe the developer finally realized the true value of taking in Canal Street's illicit activities from a soaking tub backed up along a wall of windows. Any supervillains out there in need of a pied-a-terre?
