Hammocks Run Amok on Long Island City Waterfront

New, 22 comments

It's a big day for Long Island City, as the Queens West waterfront takes a step from casually-accepted planned community to, dare we say, desired urban oasis. As previously reported, the new six-acre section of Gantry Plaza State Park makes its public debut today, doubling the space of the East River-fronting playpen and adding some cool touches like a new waterfront promenade, lounge chairs and hammocks, hammocks and more hammocks. We already got an early look at the park, but our friends at the Queens West Development Corporation sent over a few more sizzlin' pics, including some aerial shots that show the lay of the land. Now if only we could get some sunshine to really enjoy this thing. LIC, are you psyched?!
