At one time, The Alexander was blamed for destroying Turtle Bay. As far as we know the neighborhood is still standing despite the continued progress of the 24-story condo building, marked by a glassy tube rising over a blocky base at the corner of Second Avenue and 49th Street. There's also a little red and yellow mixed in, a choice the architects may be regretting, considering the only exterior shot on their website is a nighttime one. According to StreetEasy there are currently 27 active listings, including a $7.5 million duplex penthouse, with many units in contract. Andrew Fine hears closings should kick off later this summer.
