Second Look at Potential Queens Casino Plans

New, 3 comments

After the plan to turn Queens' forlorn Aqueduct Racetrack into a glitzy Vegas-like "racino" fell apart in the spring, the state decided to dangle the carrot in front of developers once again. Seven teams bit, according to the Daily News (there were three finalists last time around), and details of each proposal are trickling out. At top left, a glimpse of the MGM Mirage-backed bid, which has its own splashy website full of renderings and sketches to help us better visualize the wave of sin soon to wash over Queens. At top right, a sketch from the Aqueduct Entertainment Group, whose bid includes "seven sections designed to mirror city neighborhoods," such as a Lower East Side-themed area complete with Jewish deli. How authentic! Another bidder is Hard Rock (in partnership with real estate giant SL Green), with details such as a "425-seat buffet and eight-station food court." Atlantic City, are you scared yet?
